Bluehost is a reliable web hosting service that offers affordable cloud hosting plans for small businesses and individuals. It has three plans: Starter, Performance and Business Pro, and has contract terms of 12, 24 and 36 months. All plans include one free domain registration and unmetered bandwidth. There’s also no limit on the number of subdomains or MySQL databases you can add to your website.
In my opinion, I would not worry about the difference between a web host offering 99.93% uptime and one with 99.95%. As long as you choose a reputable web host with uptime in this ballpark, you’ll be in safe hands.
PLEASE remove Freehostia!! I purchased a domain name from them but made some mistakes when filling out my ICANN information. I asked support personnel if they’d allow me to do correct it and they said NO, that I couldn’t correct any of my ICANN information and that I had basically forfeited my website! I contacted a representative at ICANN and she told me to go back to Freehostia and explain to them they were required to allow me to update my ICANN record and gave me the law which states I can do so. I gave that to Freehostia and STILL they refused to allow me to edit the information. I had to file a formal complaint with ICANN which is what the status is now. These people are CROOKS!!! If you’re reading this, please head this warning! They are completely and obviously unreasonable. You can’t refuse to give something to someone who purchased it from you!!
Jump up ^ Dawson, Christian. “Why Uptime are Ridiculous”. Servint. Retrieved 7 October 2014. a good SLA will clearly state how uptime is defined and what you’ll receive if the “uptime promise” is not met.
Rather than renting server space as you do in shared or VPS hosting, dedicated means that one server is allotted for one purpose or site. The benefit of this type of hosting is that your site won’t crash due to external websites spiking suddenly.
A free web hosting package is never going to be exactly what you want it to be; after all, it is free! You can’t expect everything for nothing, but as always, you can maximize what you get by comparing what options you have. Some companies have more features, better load and up times, smaller, less intrusive ads, snappier subdomains… and some have the opposite!
When we turned on the CDN the first time, it was ‘on’ in our control panel but seemed to make no difference to our page speed. After contacting support it turned out that it was not actually on. Thankfully, their support team rectified this straight away by turning it on manually.
VPS plans are similar to shared plans in that both feature multiple websites hosted on a single server. However, VPS plans maintain a strict separation between clients and websites when it comes to resource allocations. Your site gets its share, and no one else may use your resources (conversely, you may not cannibalize the resources allocated to others’ websites either).
Since first publishing this guide over four years ago, we’ve analyzed 53 web hosting companies using a range of metrics. Only a handful made it through our stringent testing process, which I’ve shared below.
All of their premium plans include 24/7 support, not to mention 99.9% uptime and free 30 days trial. Consumers expect every business they encounter to have a website. Luckily, it’s easier than ever for businesses of all sizes to create them, as many web hosting services provide drag-and-drop website builders. You don’t need coding skills or technical know-how to quickly and easily create attractive, functional websites based on prebuilt templates and themes.
We’ve recently added uptime monitoring to our review process, and the results show that most web hosts do an excellent job of keeping sites up and running. Even if they excel at all other facets of hosting, services with uptime issues can’t qualify as top services.
Perhaps you’d like to get your feet wet in the ocean that is, the Internet. Having your own website has become essential for small and large businesses alike, and extremely beneficial for a plethora of other reasons (freelancing, CVs, portfolios, services…), everybody could use one. To have your own website, it needs to be hosted in some way, whether that be through a website building service, entering shared hosting, even going all out and purchasing your own server for the site to be hosted from. If your site isn’t hosted nobody will be able to access it, apart from yourself, which isn’t very useful for getting your / your business’ name out there!
If you aren’t sure which type of hosting to choose, sign up for a shared account with monthly billing (HostGator is a good choice for this). That way, you can move to a VPS plan elsewhere without penalty, if you quickly outgrow your shared hosting space.
Some web hosts offer large discounts for the first or second year, so to standardise the pricing of different web hosts, we compared the cost of hosting one domain name on their lowest pricing plan for 36 months:
In addition to supporting larger files, the paid plans include tracking controls that show you who has viewed, downloaded, edited and shared your files. You’re notified when a shared file has been received and downloaded, and you can protect your work with access codes. Three collaboration plans are available for businesses needing advanced features.
* The introductory prices are for the first term of service only and automatically renew at the regular rate. Note: if you register a free domain through us and wish to cancel your account, there is non–refundable $15 domain fee if you would like to keep your domain.
At the very bottom of their home page is a link called “show fineprints.” Clicking it expands out a list of details on the restrictions and renewal pricing for many of their promotions. We liked that this level of detail was easily available to consumers.
I’ve used 000webhost for about 4 months to host my family tree. My site has been disabled twice for not enough use (traffic or updates to the main page). It took me a while to figure out how to activate my site after the first time. The second time I had received an email so I was able to turn it back on within a few days.
If you’re a beginner, you’ll want a web host that you can bug the heck out of. Even if you’re experienced with web hosting, it pays to have a host with a helpful technical support team that can solve any issues you run into.
